Made a variation of Mild Brown Ale from More beer yesterday:
8 oz Crystal 60L
4 oz Choclate
2 oz. flaked oats <-- my addition
1.5 oz. malto dextrin <-- my addition no I "just had it around"

1 oz N. Brewer 60 min.
1 oz Willimaette 1 mi.

OG - 1.52 they say 1.035 so it's way to high but....


wha cha think? will this be any good? This is my 32nd batch of extract /
mini mash. Can't believe I've done that many. I've never thown one
completely out -- but some "could've been better.

That can't be the entire recipe, is it? I take it your main
fermentables are from extract. Which one(s) and how much?

And what are you using in your mini-mash for an enzyme source (for the
oats -- everything else can be steeped, I think)? Leave out the oats
and there's no need to mash.

What yeast are you using?

If the yeast is active enough and it ferments fairly completely,
it'll be fine. If you have lazy yeast, it's going to be beer-
flavored Jello. A good, fresh pack of Safale s04 would be my
choice here. The mouth-feel could be interesting, depending
on what you mean by "mini-mash."

and Safale s04 yeast.

that might help. :)
I'd leave out the oats unless you plan to mash. I know it's a tiny
amount, but I wouldn't want even two ounces of unconverted starch in my
beer. Otherwise, sounds like a decent enough recipe. Let us know how it
turns out.

Personally I would cut the DME to 4 Lbs and the hops to .5 oz.
But, you didn't say the batch(I ass u me d 5 gallons) size or the type
of hops. (whole, pellet, plug).
You need to steep the crystal and chocolate.
X2 on leaving out the oats and also leave out the malto.
