Twitter thread on extracting ancient yeast from the pores of beer and bread
making containers used in ancient Egypt:

A yeast strain obtained in the process was used to bake bread, but
presumably this could yield ancient brewing yeast strains too.
It sounds like the process is still being refined and needs further testing
to be sure the strains are actually ancient and not the result of later
contamination. Still, it would be interesting if someone like Wyeast or
Fermentis brought one to market some day.
